4 Tips for an Effective At-Home Workout

Sharing a few tips on how we can have effective workouts at home. You don't want to stall out on your workouts and fall short of your health and fitness goals, just because you don't want to get outside.

The weather is changing… cooler temperatures and precipitation sometimes make it difficult to leave the house when we do not absolutely have to leave. I thought I would share a few tips on how we can still have effective workouts at home. I don't want any of us to stall out on our workouts, falling short of our goals, because we don't want to get outside. You still have the option of heading to your local community center, YMCA, or gym; however, there are other options, as well.

Let’s get to it!

Tip #1 - Create Space

Create a dedicated space where you can move safely and freely. It doesn’t have to be a full room and garage gym setup; it can simply be a corner in your living room.

Try to keep all of your equipment, mats, towels, etc. within close reach so that you don’t have to venture too far and risk distractions.

Tip #2 - Stay Consistent

Set a regular workout schedule to maintain motivation and progress, just like you would if you were at the gym.

There’s truly something to be said about “scheduling” your workouts in your calendar, just like you would any other important appointment. Remember, this appointment is personal, perhaps one of your most important.

Tip #3 - Get Creative

You don’t have to have fancy or expensive equipment get a good workout. There are plenty of effective exercises that just use your body weight. And another benefit of being at home is that you are able to use your couch or countertop for balance and stabilization; water jugs for lifting; the wall for stretching; stairs for cardio!

Your options are really only limited to your own imagination.

Tip #4 - Use Online Resources

If you do find yourself losing motivation (and lacking creativity), don’t hesitate to get online to find workouts that meet your needs and support your goals.

Just make sure those resources come from reputable sources: certified personal trainers and group fitness instructors (like me!). Without certification, you could risk injury. Take time and care to work with professionals.

Reasons for working out at-home vary... could be weather, finances, transportation, too “peopley” out there, etc. Just don’t let any of those factors affect the health and fitness goals you’ve set for yourself. Share with me how you make the most of at-home workouts!
